American Mini Pig Standard Colors and Patterns
PATTERNS – Mini pigs come in a wide variety of patterns. They may be classified within multiple patterns.
Stripes – Describes a mini pig born with a stripe pattern. Stripes run longitudinally along the body and disappear turning the hairs agouti as the piglet matures.
Spots – Describes a mini pig with a spotted pattern.
Ticked – Describes a mini pig with small specks of color that are smaller than spots.
Solid – Describes a mini pig that is a single coat color.
Pinto – Describes a mini pig with large areas of white hair and pink skin contrasted by patches of pigmented (colored) hair and skin.
Broken – Describes a mini pig with irregular broken color pattern of two or more colors.
Tricolor – Describes a mini pig with three distinct colors.
Point – Describes a mini pig with white color points to include all four feet. May also include a 5th color point as a white blaze on the forehead and/or a white color point on the tail.
Tuxedo – Describes a mini pig with a white ring of hair around the neck reminiscent of a formal tuxedo collar.
Belted – Describes a mini pig with a distinct white band of hair that runs across the shoulders and straight down along the front legs.
Saddle – Describes a mini pig with a large area of color across the back, extending down both sides similar to the shape of a saddle.
Blue Butt: Describes a mini pig with markings on the hind end.
COLORS- Colors may be listed as Primary, Secondary, and Additional Colors. Mini pigs may be classified with multiple colors. Mini pigs often change colors as they mature. Individual registered mini pigs will be classified based on their color at time of registration.
White – Brilliant white
Cream – A softer off-white
Black – Black
Blue – A soft gray with a bluish tint
Silver – A gray color with a distinct shimmer
Apricot – A light, soft colored orange
Strawberry – A light, soft color with a hint of red
Tangerine
Auburn – A rich reddish brown color
Honey– A soft orange color reminiscent of honey
Ash
Stone – A mottled gray and brown
Toffee
Champagne
Maple
Praline
Caramel – A light creamy brown
Pecan
Chestnut – Darker than caramel
Cinnamon – A light brown with a hint of red
Chocolate – A deep rich brown
Mahogany – A deep rich brown with a hint of red or gold
Roan – Any color may also be roan, such as Black Roan, Chocolate Roan, or Blue Roan. The roan gene shows as a coat with white hairs interspersed with colored hairs.
Agouti – Any color may also be agouti, such as Black Agouti, Chocolate Agouti, or Blue Agouti. The agouti gene shows as hairs with multiple bands of colors. This may be seen as black or golden tips. Striped piglets typically mature to have agouti banded hairs. Red piglets also may develop agouti banded hairs.
