The Ampa was so touched when we saw this video. Very moving!
The AMPA would like to give Thanks and honor animal sanctuaries like Animal Place, which saves and rescues animals like Wilbur and Anastasia. Wilbur and Anastasia were saved from a horse rescue that abandoned all of its animals. Wilbur lived five years in a 20×30′ dirt pen, with no enrichment, no grass, and was neglected. Anastasia lived for 10 years in an even smaller enclosure, quickly gaining weight due to poor diet and lack of exercise. Animal Place rescued them both.
Wilbur now enjoys a 1/2 acre enclosure and loves his watering hole. Anastasia has lost over 80 pounds and is making new friends with our other potbellied pigs. Wilbur is large, pink, and loves humans. His muscles are weak from the lack of exercise and he suffers from an untreated fungal infection in his ears. Anastasia, the potbellied pig, spent the past decade in a 15×20′ dirt lot. She is severely overweight and can barely see, the skin around her face has folded over, obscuring her sight. Because she has not been allowed to forage, her lower teeth have not worn themselves down, now pointing awkwardly out of her face.
At Animal Place, Wilbur and Anastasia both have pastures that are 70 times larger than anything they have experienced. Wilbur will receive treatment for his fungal infection and pain medications for his arthritis. Anastasia is on a special diet full of fresh fruits and veggies.
Animal Place took on the responsibility for Wilbur and Anastasia after the horse sanctuary where they lived stopped operating, and animal control took legal custody of all the animals. While the horses found safe haven with permanent homes or other equine rescues, Wilbur and Anasatasia were left without placement.
